| NEW RACING STRIP FOR | J ARLINGTON DOWNS I ARLINGTON, Texas, May 19.— Announcement was made today by Trav Daniel, resident manager for Arlington Downs, that the contract had been let for the immediate construction of a mile and a sixteenth track, and that the new strip, which will be the only track at the spacious Waggoner plant, will be ready within ninety days. Plans drawn by Harry Friedman, noted engineer, were discussed by Daniel, E. Paul and Guy L. Waggoner, owners of the track, and superintendent Jack Hayes, and decision to start work immediately so that the track will be ready for the gala centennial race meeting of twenty-seven days, was made. Hayes crew was already at work removing the top soil from the inner track, which will be abandoned, and placing the loam in position on the track nearest the stand, which will automatically become the racing and training track. The finish line will be left at the same spot, and the chute adjacent to the training barn will be perfected in order that races of six furlongs or less may be started on the back stretch. It is possible that the six furlongs straightaway will be ready so that races over the distance route can be started there and thus give patrons an opportunity of watching the horses go by the stands twice during the event. It is predicted that the new track, when it is completed, will be one of the finest in the country. No announcement was made by Daniel regarding the installation of a totalizator, but it is generally understood that plans call for the introduction of this device for the fall meeting.
