FRANK C, displaying improved speed and taking command soon after the start, was under a snug hold until reaching the final eighth, where he held on well, though bearing out to withstand the challenge of OLD STATE. The latter raced very wide and, a factor from the start, rallied to strong urging in the late stages and was wearing down the winner. DONNACONA KID moved up on the inside entering the stretch, then tired, but outstayed RUTH SCOUT. The latter also raced wide and faltered badly in the final quarter. QUICK RELIEF lacked speed and, dropping far out of it on the turn, was outrun thereafter. SECOND RACE 3-4 MILE. Purse 00. 3-year-olds and upward. Claiming. HIGH BOTTOM, savin; ground throughout, moved up fast on the turn, slowly wore down BONNIE PAN after straightening out in the stretch and drew clear in the final eighth, but tired badly in the late stages. BONNIE PAN raced wide throughout and, having the most speed, failed to withstand the winner after drawing into a long lead on the stretch turn, but, holding on well, was the stronger of the two in the final stages. WINNING WOMAN, quick to begin, failed to keep up on the turn, rallied soon after reaching the stretch, but tired near the end. TAKE IT EASY raced wide and failed to keep up in the last quarter. MARIO, going in his best form and much the best, bettered his position gradually when racing on the inside the first half mile, came out while drawing into a long lead approaching the final eighth and easily held swav thereafter. LIGHT ZEPHYR, badly outrun or a half mile and losing much ground to thc stretch, came with a rush in the final three-sixteenths and. but for swerving to the inside in the final eighth, might have been closer up at the finish. SAILORS GIFT raced wide and, taken back repeatedly under timid handling, rallied when mildlv shaken up in the late stages. RAPID PRINCE, a factor from the start, gave way steadily in the final quarter. DONNA LASCARI did not threaten. EVEN PLAY raced wide and. under restraint for a half mile, made a bid after straightening out in the stretch, but faltered badly in the last eighth. FITK1N had speed under hustling tactics, but was through after a half mile. LEE QUICK did not extend herselt anil was pulled up. Scratched-35638 Rudolph Lad, 107. LE MISERABLE, away slowly and well handled, bt-ian to improve his position after a quarter, easily wore down the leaders in the stretch and, much the best, drew out fast in the final eighth. MADERIS had good speed from the start, was raced wide for the most desirable footing and held on well, though no match for the winner. GRANBURY, a factor from the start, was under nr.ld pressure the last three-eighths and held on well. MY BLONDE rushed to contention on the inri;!c alter reaching the turn, was placed to pressure soon alter entering the stretch and tired in the last three-sixteenths. GREYBROOM, away fast but losing the advantage by almost unseating his rider, was hustled in the early racing and, dropping out of it on the stretch turn, was far hack thereafter. SCHUIE was outrun. STAR SHADOW, greatly benefiting from good rating and taken under strong restraint after the first quarter, raced under steadying reserve to the stretch, closed with determination and, wearing down WOODLANDER in the final eighth, drew clear. The latter, under snug restraint for about five-eighths, took a short lead when placed to pressure and held on with good courage to the last sixteenth, where he tired sharply. FRA DIAVOLO, badly outrun for five-eighths, made up ground thereafter, but could not reach the leaders. INDIAN SALUTE dropped back suddenly on the final turn. BLACK HAT raced very wide after the opening eighth and, apparently gaining an advantage in the going, opened up a big margin before reaching the back stretch, continued strongly to the final quarter, then tired, but was not endangered. WITCH LORE, receiving a hustling ride, held on fairly well, yet barely lasted to finish second. LUCY, allowed to drop out of it, improved her position gradually and, finishing stoutly, was rapidly wearing WITCH LORE down. GOLDEN KNIGHT, fairly well up early, dropped back approaching the stretch, but came again and finished strongest. PAYNE could not improve his position. Start good and slow for all but Knave Won driving; second and third the same. - FANDAN, taken under strong restraint after improving its position gradually in the first half mile, stumbled when racing strongly on the stretch turn, but recovered quickly and, holding on well without need of pressure, outstayed KNAVE, but had little left. The latter, away poorly and rushed into a long lead, raced very wide throughout, was placed to pressure in the final quarter and, tiring, failed to withstand the winner. MANLY, under steadying restraint for a mile, failed to rally to light pressure, but held the others safe. GREY PAL had no mishaps. GOOSEFLESH was never a strong factor, yet closed fairly well. PRINTEMPS gave way badly after iseven eighths. MANHATTAN labored in the going and was far back throughout. Overweight Manly, 21 pounds; Grey Pal, 3; Gooseflesh, 3; Manhattan, 1.
