CAMBRIDGESHIRE WINNER Dan Bulger Carries Off Big English Eace With Daytona Second and Laureat II. Third. Special Cablegram. NEWMARKET, England, Oct. 28. Sir Abe Bailey, the South African diamond magnate, who for thirty years has been a patron of the English turf as an owner and breeder, joined the select few who have won the coveted Cambridgeshire Stakes a second time when his Irish-bred three-year-old Dan Bulger triumphed here today in the ninety-sixth renewal of that race. Bailey won this stake three years ago with Raymond, another three-year-old, that was trained by Joe Lawson at Manton. It was not this conditioner, but the Lamburn trainer, Harry L. Cottrill, who saddled Dan Bulger. Ridden by the veteran jockey Tommy Weston and carrying 112 pounds, Dan Bulger is another of the many three-year-olds to win this prize. Another horse of that age, Daytona, was the runner-up. M. H. Bensons Laureat II. was third. Dan Bulger is named for a prominent Irish sportsman: who for years has been an official of the Jockey Club in India. Dan Bulger did not loom into the picture until the final stages of the mile and a furlong race. Forwardly away at the start were Harina, Crisa, Hypothesis, Commander III., Tempest II., Noble Turk, Daytona and Finalist. At the half mile ground the leaders were Princess Herodene, Tempest II., Commander III., Finalist, Daytona, Harina,- Noble Turk and Laureat II. In the last furlong Dan Bulger sprinted into view, headed Daytona and won going away. Finalist was fourth and Tempest II. fifth. Bred in Ireland at the Belford Stud, County Cork, Dan Bulger is a good looking bay or brown son of Bulger The Rams Wife, by Galloper Light, from Spirit of Bay, by the St. Leger winner Bayardo. He was offered at the 1934 Dublin horse show yearling sales and was purchased for ,700 by the English trainer, Harry L. Cottrill, who later that year offered the Irish-bred colt at the Newmarket October sales, when he was purchased by Col. F. R. MacDonald, acting for Sir Abe Bailey, at ,150. Bailey then sent the son of Bulger to Lamburn to be trained by Cottrill. Before his success in the Cambridgeshire today Dan Bulger had run four times this season. He won his previous start, defeating last years Cambridgeshire winner, Commander III., and nine others in the one mile Clare Handicap at the Newmarket first October meeting.
