LAME DUCK, cleverly handled, was rated close to the pace, disposed of SLEEPY JOE after reaching the final quarter and held AUKAI safe. The latter improved his position gradually, responded well to strong urging and was slowly getting to the winner. SLEEPY JOE was much used setting the early pace and tired CROSS RUFF had no mishaps. ALMAC broke well, dropped back soon after the start, worked his way up on the outside and, responding readily to strong urging, wore down BLACKTHORN in the last few strides. The latter hustled into a good lead quickly, continued in game fashion, but could not withstand the winner. GLASTONBURY improved his position steadily, got through on the inside in the stretch and showed a good effort. OUT OF FIRE showed a good effort. POPS BETTY had no mishaps.
