HOW WAR FEATHERS SOLD SOLDFOR FOR 50000 AS YEARLING War Feathers was the only American filly that ever sgld for 50000 by public auction and she was the first yearling to sell for as much in this country Admiral Grayson was offered 12000 for the filly privately a night or two before the sale but was counselled by his racing partner B B Jones not to accept but to send her into the ring as he Mr Jones was sanguine the filly would realize in excess of this sum Admiral Grayson did so the contending bidders on the filly were an agent acting for Mr Brady and Mr Jones Mr Jones ran the filly up to 50000 and when Mr Bradys agent said 50500 Mr Jones dropped the filly on him Mr Jones congratulated Ad ¬ miral Grayson after the sale and with a twinkle in his eye observed Well now you have your half of Bright Knight for nothing alluding to the imported stallion Bright Knight which Air Jones and Ad ¬ miral Grayson had Just purchased from Viscount Astor
