Lakeside Handicap at One Mile the Big Feature Woodlawn Purse Supplementary SupplementaryEvent Event Gala Celebration Being BeingPlanned Planned for Inaugural Racing secretary Charles McLennan has turned his attention from the imposing lists of nominations for the seven Washington Park stake events and begun to shape up the opening day card The beautiful south side track opens the major Chicago racing season on Monday with an eightrace pro ¬ gram featuring the Lakeside Handicap and entries for that event close Friday FridayA A year ago the Lakeside went to the great mare Myrtlewood This year with the in ¬ auguration of the Futurity and Princess Pat for this meeting the Lakeside has been shifted to take the place of the Inaugural Handicap It is at one mile for threeyear olds and upward and from the list of thor ¬ oughbreds working for the event one of the finest fields of middledistance performers will go to the post postEXPECT EXPECT BIG CROWD CROWDWashington Washington Parks opening day program expected to bring 10000 to the track fea ¬ tures besides the Lakeside an allowance race at a mile and seventy yards entitled the Woodlawn Purse and two races for two yearolds The juvenile races should prove especially attractive for never has a Chi ¬ cago meeting opened with as many of the very best youngsters on hand The barns housing the horses of the Milky Way Farm the Calumet Farm E R Bradley the Val ¬ dina Farms and other of the bigger racing establishments have in them right now more fancy twoyearolds than can be found any ¬ where else in the land Racing secretary McLennan has carded two races a day for them throughout the meeting and the three stakes for the juveniles make the south side track a prospective gold mine for the owner of a topnotch band of youngsters youngstersCHICAGO CHICAGO JUBILEE QUEEN QUEENA A gala celebration has been arranged for the horses as they make their debut in the metropolitan racing area Henry Busse noted orchestra leader and worlds hottest trumpet player will play Boots and Sad ¬ dles for the first race Miss Loraine Ingalls queen of Chicagos Jubilee Year and some eightyfive of her ladiesinwaiting will be on hand and Miss Ingalls will present a bouquet to the winner of one of the events Jimmy Schnozzle Durante now at the Chez Paree will be a guest of the race track and may be featured with one of the horses in a nose finish finishAmong Among the stables checking in Thursday were those owned by Miss Mary Hirsch Tony Pelleteri the Millsdale Stable and a part of the Valdina string which is too big for shipment at one time Officials for the meeting are arriving daily Chris FitzGer ald Jr son of the Illinois Racing Commis ¬ sions steward who will serve as clerk of the scales and placing judge reached the city Thursday
