INCREASE GULFSTREAM PURSES Prizes Raised to 00 Minimum to Attract Better Horses. ,000 Features on Wednesdays and Saturdays, With 00 Headliners Each Day of Week. MIAMI, Fla., Dec. 23. Gulfstream Park, 1 Miamis new race track, due to open its inaugural meeting on January 18, will have a minimum purse of 00 during its forty-day meeting, it was decided definitely today. After a conference with vice-president Joel Hurt, Jr., and managing director John Letendre, of the Hollywood Jockey Club, operators of the mile oval north of Miami, racing secretary Fred Burton announced that each of the eight daily events on the program will be scaled from the 00 minimum upward. This represents an increase of 00 in the minimum purse value over the preliminary plans for the Gulfstream Park course. - Burton, who arrived here this week from Charles Town, where he served as racing secretary, finished the first draft of the condition book for the first ten days of racing and the book is now in the hands of the printer. It will be available for distribution to horsemen shortly after Christmas. In addition to the .00 races, there w-1" , be daily features carrying 00 in purse money. Twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, handicaps will be scheduled, carrying values of ,000. The first thoroughbreds have arrived at Gulfstream Park and training activities for the early arrivals will begin this week-end. Mr. Burton announced that a shipment of over 100 horses from Charles Town is to arrive at the unloading chute in Hallandale within the next few days. Other campaigners are being vanned to the plant from northern racing centers. The early birds are finding eight barns ready for occupancy, each with fifty-eight stalls, and two others nearing completion.
