SUPREME SIRNARROWLY Gets Head Decision in Test Handicap at Thistle Down Park Largest Gathering of the Meeting on onHand Hand for Sport Professor Paul Pauland and True Star Victorious CLEVELAND Ohio July 22 A crowd sur ¬ passing that of opening day when it was estimated that 13000 were present journeyed to Thistle Down Park today for the attrac ¬ tive program No better weather despite partlyovercast skies could have prevailed and early indications pointed to the wager ¬ ing topping that for the inaugural offering offeringSupreme Supreme Sir which formerly ran as Impe ¬ rial Sir made good at his first asking under his new name when he gained a head deci ¬ sion in the Test Handicap main attraction and sixth race Earning 1585 of the 2000 added purse for Mrs E L Martin and scor ¬ ing his first stake victory the son of Supremus ran the one and onesixteenth miles in the slow time of 146 Brown Ben and Zipaway were a nose apart with the former carrying off second honors and Zip away leading Hoptown Lass by six lengths for third thirdTIRES TIRES AT END ENDReserved Reserved early by Milligan the winner was sent to the outside after reaching the stretch Brown Ben which trailed to the far turn made his move there but hung in the last stride and Supreme Sir held his head advantage to the end endProfessor Professor Paul winner of the Fenway Hall Handicap last Saturday and well beaten by Bernard F in his Wednesdays engagement showed his versatility by being an easy win ¬ ner of the Bedford Handicap the secondary attraction which was fifth on the program The aging son of Justice F which flaunts Mrs J L Chesneys silks completed a double for Charley Hanauer by driving down on the outside to take command within the final furlong of the six furlongs and reached the finish with a length and a quarter to spare Candescent an llto10 choice and badly ridden by Patterson Milli ¬ gan came to the outside for the drive and she got up in the final stride to head the tiring Darby Dean for place honors Travel Continued on thirtyfifth page SUPREME SIR NARROWLY Continued from first page Agent was fourth and then came Squads Right and Mad Money in the named order orderTHRILLING THRILLING FINISH FINISHThe The first of the better races came with the running of the Lake Shore Handicap for twoyearolds It resulted in a thrilling finish when M J Schmitts True Star lasted to take a nose decision over Big Brands Son at the end of the Thistle Down Course Third went to Columbias Boy two lengths farther back and a head before Little Davey Belle James was fifth and Baltee the favorite a half length in the latters wake wakeThe The race was a spirited contest from the start with Little Davey driving through the field to establish a clear lead during the opening threesixteenths The winner was in closest pursuit and despite swinging wide at the stretch turn took command to draw away from his opponents Sent to the out ¬ side for racing room Big Brands Son picked up the leaders in rapid fashion and he would have been up in another stride strideRunning Running back to his previous good ef ¬ fort Thistle Red was a handy winner of the first race at one mile and forty yards Kansascitian was one and onehalf lengths back of the winner and the same distance before Grout au Pot which finished third thirdWell Well ridden by Ovie Scurlock and re ¬ served while Perfect One and Kansascitian dominated the early pace the winner moved into command approaching the last quarter and although unable to draw clear until reaching the final furlong came to the finish line with something to spare Grout au Pot which enjoyed favoritism finished fast to garner minor honors and Diarissa only made up enough ground to beat Catch Fly by a nose for fourth laurels laurelsHOLLOW HOLLOW TRIUMPH TRIUMPHMadcap Madcap Yankee scored in hollow fashion to chalk up a victory for the favorites in the second race and her second of the meetine Geo Krehbiel was second two lengths back of the winner and six lengths before War Jest the third horse horseRidden Ridden by the diminutive Charley Ha nauer and permitted to charge into a lead of six lengths during the opening quarter Madcap Yankee merely coasted along thereafter to be eased up in the final stages Imperial Nick second choice was far back throughout and Eastorian refused to begin with her field
