INAUGURAL AT ROCKINGHAii New England Racing Scene Shifts to New Hampshire Track Lawrence Purse Tops Opening Day Offering State Increases Its Share of ofMutuel Mutuel Take BOSTON Mass July 22 The New Eng ¬ land racing scene now shifts to Rockingham Park where the New Hampshire Jockey Club will open its eighteenday summer meeting Many changes have been wrought at the picturesque course located in the New Hampshire hills since Jast season One of the innovations inaugurated will be abolish ¬ ing of passes No ducats have been issued a flat charge of 50 cents being the admission charge In the mutuels department instead of pay ¬ ing to the penny as was the order last sea ¬ son the mutuel breakage will be to the dime 50 per cent going to the state and the re ¬ mainder to the track Last year the take was 10 per cent and this has been increased to 11 per cent The state of New Hampshire will receive 4 12 per cent against 3 12 per cent formerly received the clubs share be ¬ ing the usual 6 12 per cent centLONG LONG RACES RACESRacing Racing secretary John P Turner recently arrived from Delaware Park has arranged a sparkling program for the opening day Of the eight events listed five are at a dis ¬ tance of one mile or farther General man ¬ ger Lou Smith is very optimistic and be ¬ lieves the forthcoming meeting will be one of the best in the history of the course courseTopping Topping the inaugural program is the Lawrence Purse This race has attracted an entry list of seven wellseasoned performers Boston Pal has not been out of the money in any one of his ten starts this season Re ¬ cently claimed by H G Bedwell he will probably rule the choice The Bostonian six yearold has been one of the bargain claims of the season being picked up at Suffolk Downs for 1750 1750Upstream Upstream which triumphed over the son of Bostonian in their last meeting has been winner of both his last races and will be out to make it three in a row Another that has had a successful New England campaign and is deserving of attention is the Ca ¬ nadianbred Listaro The son of imported The Romp II is well suited by conditions and gets into the tilt under 110 pounds the same that Boston Pal will shoulder and in receipt of three pounds from Upstream The others in the field are Harp Weaver Panora scope with 110 and Rehearsal with 103 pounds The only newcomer to this sector is False Point a Jamestown filly which raced creditably at Delaware Park This miss under 108 pounds merits attention attentionSECONDARY SECONDARY ATTRACTION ATTRACTIONA A sprint offering titled the Manchester Purse is the secondary attraction and has attracted an overnight entry Jist of thirteen good sprinters Several newcomers to New England racing are listed these being Ben jam and Snow a pair that has been re ¬ ported training well over the local strip Others named in this test are such capable performers as Wise Prince Brown Knight Unassisted Blue Marvel Royal Eminence Slow Motion Accolade Scarlet Raider Chief Nadi and Toddle On It will also mark the first appearance of Be Blue since the latter part of May when it was reported she went amiss However the Blue Larkspur filly has been training well and will in all likeli ¬ hood rule the choice choiceThe The remaining offerings bring out well balanced fields and the sport should prove thrilling throughout the afternoon Post time will be 230 p m daylight saving time
