SIRES OF TWOYEAROLDS TWOYEAROLDSCHARLES CHARLES TOWN W Va June 11 Rac ¬ ing Secretary Fred Burton of the Charles Town W Va Jockey Club offers some in ¬ teresting breeding sidelights He states that to the best of his knowledge St Rock is the oldest sire represented in the twoyearold division this year St Rock now twenty eight years old has four foals a colt and three fillies in competition Burton is of the opinion that Omar Khayyam which died in 1938 at twentyfour was the second oldest sire to be represented in the juvenile divi ¬ sion this year Omar Khayyam had a colt and a filly Burton called attention to the fact that Ariel and Sir Gallahad III were probably the most productive sires each hav ¬ ing thirty foals Belfonda had twentyone foals thirteen of which were grey of coat Five are colts Another interesting detail brought out was that Man o War and John P Grier keen rivals as threeyearolds had representatives in the twoyearold division Man o War had twentyone fails while John P Grier had four Hard Tack sire of Sea biscuit produced twentysix foals of which to were colts while Blenheim II sire of Whirlaway got twentysix foals of which sixteen were colts The last crop of Equi ¬ poise which died in 1938 totaled twentysix of which ten were colts Blue Larkspur and Questionnaire are among the most promi ¬ nent of the other sires whose twoyearolds are showing this year Blue Larkspur sired tventyseven of which twelve were colts while Questionnaire sired twentyfour of which fifteen were colts
