WHIRLAWAY TOO MUCH RACE HORSrHOWARD HORSrHOWARDCoast Coast Owner Believes Triple Crown Winner is One of Best America Has Seen in Years YearsINGLEWOOD INGLEWOOD Calif June 11 Charles S Howards thoroughbred crusaders including Mioland Porters Cap Chiquita Mia Handy Justice Hy Camp and Painted Salvage are now quartered with the San Franciscans other horses at Hollywood Park The horses were accompanied by owner Howard and trainer Tom Smith The sextet crossed the continent in seemingly fine condition Por ¬ ters Cap being particularly glad to be back backAsked Asked about the report from the East that he intended to lay up Mioland thereby pass ¬ ing up the Hollywood stakes owner Howard said he had no definite plans It all depends on how Mioland shapes up during the next few weeks he stated intimating that the son of Mio dArezzo lolanda would certainly be seen in action if he tra s properly properlyIn In answer to a question as to whether he thought there was any chance of Whirlaway coming to Hollywood Park Howard laughed and said I hope not w eve had all we want of that bird hes too much race horse our evacuation of the East was highly success ¬ ful PAYS WHIRLY FINE TRIBUTE TRIBUTEHoward Howard then paid Whirlaway a fine trib ¬ ute unhesitatingly admitting that he thinks he is one of the best horses the turf has seen in years yearsI I am glad Mr Wright got such a fine colt he is fully deserving of his good for ¬ tune for he has spent much time and money to achieve such success successWhirlaway Whirlaway fooled us in the Derby be ¬ cause prior to that race they had not discov ¬ ered how to ride the horse but after that showing he didnt fool anybody anybodyIn In the Preakness he was away slowly as usual and began loving up on the far turn The boys allowed him to come between horses instead of forcing him to go around Buddy Haas saw him coming and decided to wait until he got up to Porters Cap when he would go along wit him and fight it out He went along with him alright for just about three jumps Howard laughed laughedWhile While the stable sent six horses east they started only four namely Mioland Porters Cap Chiquita Mia and Handy Justice of which the latter two were the only members of the quartet to win but the expedition was nevertheless a financial success Mioland and Porters Cap having won enough seconds and thirds to run up the total winnings to 24000 24000Smith Smith personally accompanied the horses to Hollywood Park where bedded down they set up a terriffic rumpus apparently celebrat ¬ ing their return Other horses in the barn looked at the newcomers at least toward the stalls from which the noise was coming as much as to say What the hecks wrong with that gang gangTom Tom Smith stated that the horses would be rested a few days and then returned to training
