LECHLADE WINS SPRING MAIDEN STEEPLECHASE STEEPLECHASEEasily Easily Best in Delaware Edition of Series Clark Entry of Bladen and Taras Harp Both Go Down DownSTANTON STANTON Del June 11 F Ambrose Clarks Bladen and Taras Harp were backed to the exclusion of the six other jumpers in the Delaware Spring Maiden Steeplechase which opened that branch of racing here this afternoon but Bladen winner of the Bel mont Park edition of this series fell at the eighth jump and Taras Harp found his Waterloo at the twelfth This enabled Harry LaMontagnes Lechlade whom he recently purchased to turn in the final round of the series into a rout and he came to the end of the short two miles eighteen lengths before Groton Stables Amalfi who lasted to head Mrs Van Lear Blacks Strolling On for second Big Severn was fourth and Sunbee was the only other starter to finish Roll and Toss making his first appearance under Mrs Arthur Whites silks lost his rider Brooks when he collided with Bladen BladenThe The field sport opened before a large crowd and Lechlade who qovered the dis tance in 351 gleaned 3050 of the 2000 added purse The series started at Pimlico with Chaloner the winner Lechlade was second in that race and also finished third to Bladen and Amalfi at Belmoht Park Ridden by J Penrod Lechlade carried 144 pounds and he was held at odds of better than 5 to 1 WINNER FENCES WELL WELLBellhouse Bellhouse rushed Bladen to the front and he held a twolength advantage going into the fourth jump but soon afterward Penrod had Lechlade up with him and the latter was taking the hedges better than Bladen The winner moved into slight command after the seventh obstacle but the pair went into the eighth hedge together Bladen went down at the tenth and Roll and Toss who was in closest pursuit collided with him himIt It was an easy task for Lechlade there ¬ after and Amalfi appeared to be much the best of the others until Strolling On charged through the straightaway straightawayIdeal Ideal weather prevailed for the sport which was offered over a fast track trackE E G Hackneys Sir Alfred blasted the Kent hopes of Tall Trees Stables My Bill and G A Garretts Happy Hunting in the run ¬ ning of the Stanton Purse which served as the sixth and next best event Sir Alfred reached the end of one mile and seventy yards a length before My Bill and Hop Skip furnished by H P Metcalf was third an ¬ other length farther back Happy Hunting finished sixth in the field of eight and at no stage of the journey offered a threaten ¬ ing gesture gestureDisplaying Displaying his usual fine speed My Bill sprinted into a commanding lead during the run to the back stretch and held a good ad ¬ vantage until reaching the eighth post where Madden was forced to put him to extreme pressure Hop Skip still was in closest pur ¬ suit of the pacemaker but Sir Alfred who had been leading the others moved up with a rush that carried him to the leader before entering the final sixteenth Once chal ¬ lenged My Bill gave way and Sir Alfred drew clear in the last stages
