WISE NIECE AGAIN TURNS IN FAST TIME AT SUFFOLK OVAL OVALLeads Leads From End to End Covering Six Furlongs Distance in 111 111BOSTON BOSTON Mass June 11 Taking rank with the best threeyearold sprinters seen in New England this season Maple Crest Farms Wise Niece showed that her recent triumph when she hung out 111 for the threequarters mile was no fluke by dupli ¬ cating that time in taking the Medford Purse an allowance offering that headlined todays program at Suffolk Downs The pub ¬ lic choice Button Hole from the E R Brad ¬ ley string was second beaten half a length for top honors Just inches back in third place came J D Mamroschs Pavilion PavilionWise Wise Niece until her last race had been more or less an erratic performer Always a miss of lightning early speed the Wise Counsellor mare was in the habit of running but in most of her races and was anything but dependable It looked for a time when reaching the stretch in the Medford that she was back to her old tricks but at the first suspicious move she was straightened away by Atkinson and kept right about her business The curbing of the running out habit has been attributed to the oneeyed blinker similar to the one introduced by Whirlaway DerbyIn in the Kentucky Derby In traveling the six furlongs in todays time of 111 it equalled the best mark for that distance in New England this year hung up by the Wise Counsellor filly in her last start but in todays engagement she picked up seven pounds over that most re ¬ cent performance performanceFAST FAST BREAKER BREAKERWith With a minutes delay at the post Wise Niece was away like a flash and in the first few strides was well clear of her closest attendant It was the Bradley maid who fdllovved the winner Smith had the Clock Tower filly under snug restraint as she chased along in nearest attendance of the Maple Crest Farm miss Going into the stretch Wise Niece was still clear It was after the final furlong post had been passed that the Wise Counsellor filly made her one false move Smith sensing that the leader was about to bear out went from the out ¬ side to the inside of the leader with Button Hole Then came another threat in Pavilion PavilionAtkinson Atkinson was riding Wise Niece out ambi ¬ tiously and still had a half length to spare at the finish Button Hole was battling along gamely on the inside Pavilion run ¬ ning one of her best races swept up on the outside placeWise to be just inches away in third place Wise Niece was chalking up her second consecutive triumph and the third of her career She paid 2 to 1 while the runnerup Button Hole was held at 190 to 1 1The The midweek program was witnessed by an unusually large weekday throng and while the wind of the past few days was still in evidence it had subsided consider ¬ ably The track again was at its best and some of the most thrilling sport of the meet ¬ ing was provided EQUISTONE SURPRISES SURPRISESPerforming Performing in his best style Equistone from the stable of llrsrH G Good pro ¬ vided a mild upset in taking the six fur ¬ longs of the Mystic Valley Purse fashioned for the bettergrade sprinting platers Glen Felkners Maechance was a rapidgoing sec and and Remarkable racing for Mrs R Palladino managed to hold on long enough to defeat Purcellville for third thirdRemarkable Remarkable as usual went out to make the early running drawing into a clear lead after taking the first few strides Skin Deep chased after the leader and Shortstop was just showing before Maeline Remarkable increased his lead when swinging from the far side of the track and Skin Deep was still before the others Short ¬ stop was kept far out in the track as Mae line went wide on the turn Meanwhile Equistone after racing back in the middle of the field was gaining racing room as he skirted the inner rail Remarkable was fetill clear of his company a furlong from the finish
