KEENE RETAINS YEAJLINGS YEAJLINGSLEXINGTON LEXINGTON Ky June 11 John O Keene owner of Keene Stud has decided against offering his yearlings at auction The ten he owns and eight which he has in part ¬ nership with Johnny Mayberry will not be broken until fall and may not enter competi ¬ tion until late next year Keene owner of stallions Jean Valjean Silver Horde and Grand Slam is now at Delaware Park where he is racing ten horses chief of which are War Beauty and Jeanne dArc He planned to breed them to Braham but when owners of that stallion decided to pass up the 1941 season Keene decided to race the fashion ¬ ablebred fouryearolds Several years ago Keene who was the builder of Keeneland rice track and club house sold his entire yearling crop to Charles A Bohn and Peter A Markey Grand Slam was one of the horses and his first crop of foals will reach racing age next year
