TEXAS NURSERY NOTES Total Eclipse son of St Germans Twitter by Whisk Broom II which Hirsch Jacobs claimed recently at Delaware Park was at stud in Texas during the 1940 season He stood at the Roger Gillis Ranch near Del Rio He is now back in training Dr J W Hawkins Lufkin patron rc turned recently from a trip to Kentucky during which he visited some of the princi ¬ pal thoroughbred nurseries there He brought back the good fouryearold mare Edith Cf by Diavolo Kitty Williams She was bred to Hairan son o Fairway Harpsichord by Louvois this spring springDevil Devil Red halfbrother to Whirlaway which a syndicate of Texas breeders pur ¬ chased recently from Calumet Farm will be shipped to the Lone Star State in a short time Kenneth Murchison one of the syndi ¬ cate members reported Devil Red a son of Sir Gallahad III Dustwhirl by Sweep will start his stud career in 1942 at a place still to be decided Homebred twoyearolds by Hygro won on successive days under the silks of William F Morgan Houston oilman and sportsman Bien Asado was a winner at Aqueduct and Espero triumphed at Suffolk Downs It was the maiden victory for Bien Asado which was making her second start startC C B Deniels Newcastle Texas breeder reports that Lost Cause the Eternal sire he leased from Reynolds Brothers has proved unusually successful with his mares getting 100 per cent in foal for his first season at Newcastle Lost Cause is the sire of Powder Bluff Reynolds Brothers twoyearold champion and twotime winner at Oaklawn Park ParkThe The last two brood mares at Judge Alfred McKnights Knighthaven Stock Farm foaled recently Vonset dropping a colt to Book ¬ binder and Miss Angelo a filly to Flying Watch These1 foalings were the last for 1941 McKnight probably will send Miss Angelo which has a yearling filly by State Senator Jesse Martins crack Outbound at Knighthaven back to Flying Watch and will breed Vonset dam of the winner Red Set to Sunsun his Peter Hastings Sunset Gun by Man o War stallion recently ac ¬ quired from King Ranch McKnight who is secretary for the Thoroughbred Horse As ¬ sociation of Texas has a small stable cam ¬ paigning at Fairmount Park in charge of Monte Parke His horses won several races at Beulah Park this year yearGeorge George B McCamey owner of Bedford Stock Farm on a brief business trip to New York stopped off en route home at St Louis and inspected his horses at Fair mount Park He is virtually through with breeding at his stock farm He reports that all mares served by Valted and Sangreal are in foal for 1942 McCamcys crop of 1942 foals are standouts fifteen colts and three fillies filliesPriscilla Priscilla dOr belonging to Fred and Mary Browning has been retired from racing and she was bred to Royal Ford The black mare one of the fastest ever owned by the Brownings would not stand training and it was decided to retire her to the stud
