BARNS AT ARLINGTON DOWNS TRACK BEING TORN DOWN DOWNSite Site of Stables at Texas Course to Be Converted Into Pastures PasturesARLINGTON ARLINGTON Texas June 28 Workmen here razed the barns in the area adjacent to Arlington Downs The barns originally used by visiting horsemen attending the race meetings in Texas were torn down and the lumber sold said G W Turpin manager of the Waggoner Estate who supervised the demolition of the nineteen 30 and 40stall structures structuresIn In addition to the barns it is proposed to demolish the kitchen which stands in the center of the area Plans call for the reten ¬ tion of the barns in the rear of the area which are to be converted into feeding pens for the cattle sheep and other stock the Waggoners will graze in this pasture pastureIt It was announced that this program does not precede any general razing of Arlington Downs itself We just needed the space for our cattle and the barns were doing no good as they are hence our decision to tear them down and sell the lumber commented Turpin Horsemen and stockmen in the vicinity bid on some of the barns either torn down or standing standingWhen When constructed during the early days of Texas racing the barns were said to be among the best ever built The visitors barns at Santa Anita Park Suffolk Downs and Delaware Park were built from the ori ¬ ginal plans laid out by the late Col W T Waggoner WaggonerAfter After the Murchison Brothers departure from North Star Stock Farm formerly El Ranchito polo field and immediately ad ¬ jacent to Arlington Downs this area will be converted into a pasture also The stables at North Star will remain as will the club ¬ house and other facilities there but the paddocks will be given over to pasturing stock
