STRUB SUBMITS RECORD SANTA ANITA PROGRAM ESTIMATE 1160000 PURSE DISTRIBUTION DISTRIBUTIONThree Three New Stakes to Be Added to Roster of Established Fixtures Racing Dates Approved by Board BoardLOS LOS ANGELES Calif June 28 The rich ¬ est and most pretentious stakes and purses in the history of racing are on Santa Anita Parks program for the meeting opening De ¬ cember 31 next and running fiftyfive days including five charity days to March 16 as submitted today by general manager Charles H Strub of Los Angeles Turf Club Inc to the California Horse Racing Board for approval The board approved both the program and the application of regular dates and went on record to the effect that it would also approve the five additional charity days as soon as the state law pro ¬ viding for them becomes effective effectiveAn An increase of an estimated 100000 over Santa Anitas alltime high record of 1062 730 distributed last season to horsemen and breeders is announced The total is approxi ¬ mately 1160000 which will make the grand total distribution at Santa Anita Park close to 7000000 7000000Features Features of the 194142 Santa Anita pro ¬ gram include 1 Introduction of the Los Cerritos Handi ¬ cap 25000 added one and onesixteenth miles for threeyearolds and upward to be run January 17 and designed to bring out the handicap stars early in the season 2 Another new stake in the San Gabriel Handicap 10000 added six furlongs for threeyearolds and upward to be run Janu ¬ ary 1 This is the initial event on a schedule of events in proper sequence as to distance and date of running 3 A third new stake in the San Fernando Handicap 10000 added threeyearolds dis ¬ tance and condition to be announced Febru ¬ ary 28 to be run on closing day March 16 4 Renewals of the headline classics the 100000 Santa Anita Handicap on March 7 50000 Santa Anita Derby on February 25 and the 50000 San Juan Capistrano Handi ¬ cap on March 14 5 Ten fixtures with more or less than 10000 value 6 Substantial increases making 20000 added to the California Breeders Champion Stakes on opening day December 31 and 20000 added to the Santa Catalina Handi ¬ cap for Californiabreds on February 14 7 Doubling the value of the twoyearold stakes and increasing the distance to three and onehalf furlongs of the 10000 Santa Maria for Californiabreds to be run March 4 and the 10000 Santa Barbara to be run March 11 8 Overnight purses ranging up to 5000 each 9 No purse of less than 1500 EXTEND HOME STRETCH CHUTE CHUTEThe The home stretch chute on the track will be extended threesixteenths of a mile back from the quarter pole to permit the starting at the new distance of the twoyearold stakes the richest in value ever offered for juveniles at the beginning of a season seasonThe The extended chute at the head of the home stretch will also be used to dispatch the field in the San Juan Capistrano mak ¬ ing the distan 3 one and sevensixteenths miles and eliminating the start at the turn as heretofore heretoforeThe The threeyearolds have had the San Pasqual converted into a sevenfurlong handicap on January 24 This will be pre ¬ ceded by the Santa Susana an allowance event for fillies at six furlongs on January 3 and the San Felipe an allowance race for colts and geldings at six furlongs on January 10 Following the three opening threeyearold events will be the San Vicente Handicap at a mile on February 7 leading to the Santa Anita Derby on Febru ¬ ary 25 and closing with the new San Fer ¬ nando
