• Hope to Resume At Detroit Today Recent Rioting Brings About Cancellation of Tuesdays Program at Motor City Oval DETROIT, Mich., June 22.— In compliance to instructions received from state authorities, the racing program scheduled for presentation at the Detroit Fair Grounds today was cancelled. Due to the fact that rioting has taken place in the Motor City for the past 48 hours, martial law was ordered and all places of amusement were asked to close temporarily. The Detroit Racing Association has prepared an excellent eight-race card for decision tomorrow and, should conditions improve here in the next 24 hours, the Fair Grounds will operate as usual after the one-day holiday. Six top flight fillies and mares were named to contest the Smart Set Purse, a six-furlong sprint endowed with a ,000 purse. The headliner drew the entries of such good ones as David McClures homebred Gold Princess, Edwin K. Thomas Dead Level, In the Night, a representative of the estate of the late John Oliver Keene; Sterling S. Ganos Sarah Loraine, Cohen Brothers Big • Meal and Makeshift who will carry the silks of Edwin Talbert. Gold Princess Likely Choice Gold Princess is expected to rule as one of the choices for the dash on the strength of her recent splendid effort in the ,500 Cadillac Handicap. Beaten but a neck by Wise Moss, in that stake, Gold Princess defeated such good ones as Dogpatch, Best Reward, By Conscript, Overdrawn, Col. Teddy, Defense and Samborombon, among others. The secondary attraction on the midweek program is the Currys Corner Purse, a five-furlong event for two-year-olds. Prominent in the field is Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Abels Gramps Image, who finished second to Black Badge in the recently decided ,000 St. Aubin Handicap. Rounding out the field for the dash are Milky Way Farms Red Wonder, Darby Dan Farms Darby Damron, Bomar Stables Love Pact, Ellstrom Bros. Valdina Loria, L. O. Hand-leys In Light and Mrs. L.
