- m Flaught Outruns His Castaway Rivals Air Current Next To Jacobs Racer Firethorn Colt Takes Top Soon After Start to Make Every Marker Winning One t AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 22.— Hirsch Jacobs, who seems to have a long j term lease of the American training title, ■ saddled another of his frequent winners when he tightened the girth on Mrs. Jacobs head strong Flaught to capture the Cast- away Handicap, a class "C" run of seven furlongs dignified with feature billing on Aqueducts card today. Wayne Wright had the mount on the Firethorn four-year-old, hustling him to the lead as the field scurried for positions coming out the chute and winning by a length and a half at the direct expense of F. L. Tylers fast-closing Air Current. Two lengths away, William Zieglers Wait a Bit nosed Singing Torch out of the third award in a field of 10. Air Current was the publics preference in the •tote- and was coupled with Eire. Flaught returned his following 4.80 for after completing the distance in a creditable 1:24 on a fast surface while carrying 116 pounds. The winner received a single pound from Wait a Bit, giving weight to his remaining rivals, and had won his last previous essay at Belmont Park. He was sporting bandages in front this afternoon, however, and pulled up a trifle gimpy. Takes Early Lead The days attendance was 14,804, which once again represented an increase over the size of the crowd the corresponding day last summer, when 11,883 were present. Col. E. R. Bradley, George Bull, and Theodore Knapp were among the well-known turf figures on hand for the afternoons unpretentious proceedings. Flaught was favored with Number One stall in the starting machine and was tiptoed away from the break to such good purpose he was daylight in front of Eire as the latter essayed to run with him the opening quarter mile. Singing Torch was right alongside Eire in the run down the far lane while Flaught mizzled along on the bit. Turning for home Eire flattened out and Singing Torch cut the corner maintaining second position to the Jacobs colorbearer. However, he began to weaken midway of the home stretch where the stretch runner, Air Current and Wait a Bit were moving forwardly and they passed him out. Air Current beating Wait a Bit by daylight for the place though he was unable to overtake Flaught.
