Headleys Askmenow, and Leslie Combs III.s Hometown. Mar-Kell already has given Chicagoans a sample of her prowess and may rule the favorite tomorrow. In her one and only start of the local season she won the mile War Admiral Purse from Kings Abbey; her stablemate, Whirlaway; Valdina Orphan, Aonbarr and others, and she accomplished the feat in easy fashion. Won Top Flight Handicap Just before leaving New York she won Belmont Parks Top Flight Handicap, and still earlier, in New Orleans last February, she captured the Washington Birthday Handicap from a field that included Pom-pion and Marriage. In Pomayya, however, she will be meeting one of the foremost contenders for filly and mare honors this year. Pomayya, who arrived from New York a few days ago, recently captured the Faireno Handicap at Aqueduct, beating Lochinvar, Soldier Song and Mioland, and before that won the Erin Handicap, in which she subdued the 1942 champion three-year-old filly, Vagrancy, What Not and Dark Discovery. Interest tomorrow also will focus on the performance of Askmenow, last year acclaimed the juvenile filly champion. In her outstanding effort this year, the Headley filly won the Pimlico Oaks, but she could finish no better than second to Valdina Marl in the Princess Doreen Stakes. Joan T. has a notable local triumph to her credit this meeting and she, too, is expected to make her presence felt. Her victory was achieved in the Rose of Sharon Handicap in which she beat the more- CoJitinued on Page Twenty-Six J I I j j I ! j i ] Mar-Kell Meets Pomayya In Cinderella Handicap Calumet and Brookmeade Racers Top Twelve in Homewood Event i Continued from Page One favored Pig Tails a head. A double winner at the Lincoln Fields meeting is Hometown, though she scored her victories at the expense of fields of middle-grade selling plat- • ers and whether she is a filly of quality has yet to be shown. The Cinderella tops a splendid program and the Arlington management confidently expects it to be witnessed by one of the fewest week-day crowds of the meeting.
