| Phils Pet Surprises Fans At Fairmount by Scoring Unseats Rider, Gallops Back to Barn, but Still Is Able to Win COLLINSVILLE, 111., June 29— In spite of throwing jockey Willie Gonzalez while parading to the post and galloping back to his stable. Phils Pet, a two-year-old unsexed son of Pharacase and Lin Cloi, who races in the silks of Phil Raasch. and who was making the second start of his career, was returned to the paddock, remounted by Gonzalez and surprised a large crowd at Fairmount Park this afternoon by taking the decision in the five furlongs fourth race, one of the best offerings at the local track today. J. O. Harts Birthmark was second and Don Miller, a bang-up third. Gonzalez had Phils Pet off with the leaders and after racing on even terms with Dont for the first quarter, was taken back off the pace with Dont and Don Miller battling for the lead. Turning into the stretch, Don Miller disposed of Dont and opened a fair lead over his opponents and looked an easy winner a sixteenth from the finish but he began to weaken rapidly and as he did, Gonzalez had Phils Pet going in his best stride and responding gamely to strong riding passed Birthmark, who had raced into the runner-up position an eighth from the finish and then raced Don Miller into submission. At the end, Phils Pet was a half length before Birthmark, while Don Miller was a like distance to the rear. Making his fifth start of the meeting, J. P. Becks Double Call, who had been dropped down in company, made every post a winning one in the first race at five and one-half furlongs. Ronald Phelps, whose contract was purchased by Mrs. James Davis, of Shreve-port. La., scored his second straight victory when he handled Mrs. E. E. Majors Yankee Notions to that horses easy six furlongs triumph in the second race. Mutinous, a field horse, finished second, a head before Paducah.
