Greentree to Divide Handicap Forces Devil Diver Will Be Sent Here And Shut Out to Suffolk Downs 1 Former to Start Monday in Stars and Stripes — Latter Going in Massachusetts JAMAICA L. I., N. Y.. June 29.— Trainer John Gaver, who manages to each season place Greentrees name "there or thereabout" on the list of successful American stables, announced today *hat he has discussed immediate plans for Shut Out and Devil Diver with Mrs. Payne Whitney. In accordance with their decision, Shut Out will be transferred to Suffolk Downs for the 0,000 Massachusetts Handicap there on Monday, when the Fourth of July is celebrated in racing circles. Devil Diver will journey westward, to Washington Park to sport the popular pink and black silks in the 0,000 Stars and Stripes the same afternoon. Arrangements are being made for the shipment of these luminaries of the Manhassett, L. I., sportswomans string on Thursday. Mrs. Whitney will, in fact, have worthy ..representation in three stakes totaling 25,000 in added money this week-end. For, in addition to the forays of Shut Out and the recent Brooklyn Handicap winner, the three-year-old Famous Victory is to appear for Saturdays 5,000 Empire City Handicap here at Jamaica. He will ba among the choices, if not the favorite. Famous Victory also is a candidate for the [Classic of 0,000 during the current Arlington at Washington meeting, Gaver noted, and will be a commuter for that fixture on July 24. if his form in the interim seems to warrant. Market Wise Works Five Furlongs These are not the only Long Island "name" horses to be lured, temporarily, to other racing areas for opulent stake events. Marise Farms Market Wise, runner-up to Devil Diver in last week-ends Brooklyn re-j newal, is to depart soon for Suffolk Downs and the Massachusetts Handicap. Trainer George Washington Carroll reported that Brokers Tips son came out of his engagement last Saturday unscathed, and this morning at Jamaica breezed five furlongs in :243, :4923 and l:024/5, by way of keeping fit for the Boston attraction. A point of interest in local turf circles today were handicapper Campbells Empire City weights. The Saturday stake, a run of a mile and three-sixteenths exclusively for three-year-olds, finds Blue Swords honored with the top poundage of 128. But. of course, he is hors de combat, so his weight is of only academic interest. Campbell fails to make the slightest difference in W. L. Branns Vincentive and Greentrees Famous Victory, who were one-two at level weights in the Dwyer. He requires each to carry 120 pounds, after having witnessed tht excitingly close finish. Chop Chop is similarly burdened. Bossuet, at 119; Princequillo, 114; Modest Lad, 110; Pops Pick, 110; Fairy Manhurst. 108; Bill Sickle. 105. and Eye for Eye. at the same assignment, also are prospective starters. The mid-week program at Jamaica is embellished with a ,000 added test of a mile and a sixteenth for fillies and mares that is styled the Aphrodite Handicap and has attracted only four promised runners. However, the field is of the "light but bright variety. Belairs Vagrancy is the top weight under 128 pounds, by which she spots War Hazard 12, Stefanita 18 and Night Glow 22 pounds. Vagrancy is an eligible for the Massachusetts, though she has not yet managed to whip the horses for any of the handicaps, such as the Butler, Suburban and Brooklyn, in which she has appeared. In extenuation, it may be noted that in the Suburban she was in trouble and that she stumbled and all but fell at the break in the Brooklyn. "? _ , • : . j i ; | ■ [ i [ | I I I I i | I I I j
