Norragansett Park Agrees To Increase Grooms Fees PAWTUCKET, R. I., April 11.— Prompt action at Narragansett Park this morning averted all possibility of a grooms strike at tomorrows opening, or at any subsequent day during the meeting. The grooms" strike in New York caused the men at Narragansett to get together and murmur uneasily, but the threat was handled firmly and promptly by president Judge Dooley. After a series of conferences this morning between a committee, representing the grooms, Horsemens Benevolent and Protective Association committee, and President Dooley and Raymond G. McMahon, general counsel, representing the Narragansett Racing Association, an agreement was reached whereby a fee of will be paid to each groom bringing a horse to the paddock, and 5 will be paid to each groom bringing the winning horse to the paddock. The money will be paid by the association to the horse owner in the form of a grooms award, in addition to the purse. The management took this action, not because of any fear that the grooms might not bring the horses to the paddock at Wednesdays opening, as definite assurances had been given by the horsemen that their horses would be brought to the paddock, but in a spirit of cooperation with the horsemen to assist them, in the present manpower shortage, in obtaining grooms and in keeping the grooms satisfied.
