Fifty-Six Nominations Made for Kings Plate Famous Canadian Race to Be Run At Woodbine Park on May 27 TORONTO, Ont., April 11.— The Kings Plate, open for the first time in its long history to three-year-olds foaled in the Dominion of Canada, attracted 56 nominations for the 85th running, scheduled at Ontario Jockey Clubs Woodbine Park on May 27. Last year, when the eligibility was confined to horses bred in the Province of Ontario, there were 45 nominations. Western Canadas nominators include J. Diamond and Dr. L. H. Appleby of Vancouver, B. C; Dr. F. G. Salisbury of Saskatoon, Sask.; Winnipegs R. J. Speers, who named two for his Whittier Park Stock Farm, and Mrs. D. C. Coleman, who nominated Braeside Stables Boom Time. Quebecs lone representative is the Lemoh stable. Leading the list of nominators is Charles Hemstead, whose Paolita captured last years renewal. He has named six. R. S. McLaughlins Parkwood Stable and James G. Fair are both represented with three each. Every worthwhile three-year-old, including the winners of all of Ontarios 1943 juvenile fixtures, is on the list. The most noteworthy gleaners are Parkwood Stables Heulwen and Cyperac, who won 0,965 and ,800, respectively, in their first year of racing. , Additional interest is attached to this coming renewal, inasmuch as it marks the first time that the conditions permit candidates to train outside of the country. The Parkwood Stable pair and the H. C. Hatch hopes are already well advanced, having been at Oaklawn Park since early in the year. It is reported also that the Whittier Stock Farm pair are at Bay Meadows undergoing preliminary conditioning. A traditional opening-day feature at Woodbine, this years Kings Plate has been set back to the seventh day of the meeting, with the Plate Trial providing a public conditioner on the opening day.
