Crenshaw and Weil Units Arrive at Sportsmans Galliger Estimates 650 Morses At Half-Miler and Hawthorne With the rains that visited Chicago and vicinity the past few days finally subsiding, activity at Sportsmans Park, where the Illinois season will be ushered in April 29 with a 14-day meeting, was stepped up considerably. After tabulating the number of recent arrivals, racing secretary Pat Galliger stated that the combined horse colonies at the half-mile track and neighboring Hawthorne now total 650 head. R. A. Lewis, who trains the W. W. Crenshaw division that will race here, and . Monte Weil, a regular year in and year out, will have two of the biggest stables on . . . the grounds. Lewis arrived with 18 of his 1 charges from Florida, where the string enjoyed marked success during the Hialeah | and Tropical meetings. Weil came with 11 head from the same point and that number I was augmented by eight more that he had : ; shipped on to him from Louisville. E. B. Carpenter and Otto Bagley also un-loaded j their charges, each stable housing 14 horses. Ralph Salvino was still another to check in over the week-end. bringing 10 of the Happy Hour Farm colorbearers from the Everglades State. J. J. Coughlin, with 6 head: Lyle Dilger, with 3; O. L. Hopper, 6; Tom Marshall, 4 and H. A. Herm with 2, were other recent arrivals from Florida. Paul Kelley is assembling a formidable stable for campaigning at the local track. , the 12 horses he has on hand, having come • from Florida, Hot Springs and Louisville. Six of the group were campaigned in the i 1 | I : ; j Magic City, while 4 were at Oaklawn and 2 came up from Lousiville. Marion Barton also unloaded his eight-horse string, they making the trip from Hot Springs without mishaps, while Enoch Rea brought in 10 from the farm. The number of riders who will be under silks at the meeting and who will strive for the ,650 in War Bonds that will be offered to the four leading riders likewise is growing daily with W. Gillespie and R. Haber the two latest reinsmen to put in an appearance. Gillespie came from Hot Springs and Haver from New Orleans.
