Attendance of 16,926 Sets New All-Time Omaha Record AK-SAR-BEN. Omaha, Neb., May 31.— A new all-time attendance record was established Memorial Day at Ak-Sar-Ben with an official paid attendance of 16,926 racing enthusiasts viewing the holiday program arranged by racing secretary A. Leigh, Sr. According to general manager J. J. Isaacson, the previous attendance high was July 4, 1942. when 16,467 people passed through the turnstiles. Prevailing sunny skies beamed over a track that had been transformed into a virtual quagmire by overnight downpours for the afternoons races. Jockey Eddie Franklin showed that his ability had not decreased since his excellent record here last year, by guiding three winners past the judges stand. Ralph Wagners To a Tee was his first victor, winning the fourth race and returning backers 0.80. Mis. B. F. Johnsons good mare, Hillfilly, provided a double in the secondary featured six-furlong fifth race. Also overlooked in the betting, the mare paid 6.60. The Memorial Day Handicap provided his third triumph, astride A. L. Colbs easy-winning Whitchtack. The son of Hard Tack traversed the six furlongs in 1:1325 over a heavy track and paid .40.
