Forgetmenow Victorious; Plucky Maid Is Unplaced Headley Miss Finishes Almost Length Ahead of Darby Devon BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y„ May 31. — Alfred G. Vanderbilts Plucky Maid disillusioned an off-day crowd of 32,534 fans at Belmont Park today, going to the post at 2 to 5 and finishing a fast-fading fourth, indicating that she is one of the least aptly named fillies in training. The occasion was the six-furlong Moira Purse, one of two moderate features, and Hal Price Headleys Forgetmenow scored by almost a length over G. Schifters Darby Devon, who led Earl Sandes Prop Girl another two and a half lengths. The favorite, who had won and been second in her only two starts in California, was a neck out of the money. Forgetmenow paid .10 and was clocked an unimpressive 1:13%. Plucky Maid shot out of the gate as though she was going to justify the courage of the fans who backed her blindly, but Eddie Arcaro sent Forgetmenow up to join her and the two quickly drew away from the field. It was soon evident that Forgetmenow was going to put Plucky Maid away, and the Vanderbilt filly called it a day at the top of the home lane, continuing steadily to the wire. Darby Devon closed some ground in the stretch, while Prop Girl came from far back. Orange Blossom was first out of the gate, but ran out of speed after less than a quarter mile. Job Dean Jessop, who had achieved an upset aboard Brookmeade Stables Cellophane in the opener, came back to take the Raceland Purse, co-feature of the card, aboard Marlboro Stud Farms Damos, who whipped Vanderbilts Detection by a length and a half. Dewey Benthams Bee Twenty Nine finished six lengths farther back, just a head before Milton Seidts Big Teddy. The public made Jules Mirons Weyanoke favorite here, despite the fact that he Is now a five-year-old and hasnt won a race since he was a juvenile. He never threatened seriously today. This was also a double for Marlboro Stud Farm, which had won the fourth race with Galamilk, but the two horses had different trainers, Maj. Tom McCreery saddling Galamilk, while W. R. Fairbanks trained Damos. The winner paid 0.70 and ran the mile and a furlong in 1:51%.
