Major, Jr.; bred by Walter H. Bradley. WENT TO POST-5:37. OFF AT 5:38 CENTRAL DAYLIGHT TIME. Start good from stall gate. Won driving; second and third the same. STEEPLE JACK worked his way up between horses on the backstretch and far turn, was taken to the outside for the drive and wore down ELKHORN. The latter established a clear lead quickly, was hard put for the closing quarter and just missed. VERONA SANDS, reserved for a half, went up between horses and finished resolutely. JOUSTING MATCH, slow to gain stride, as usual, closed with a belated rush. SAMMIES IMAGE dropped back on the inside going into the far turn, then moved up gamely in the stretch and faltered. BORN TO WIN broke in a tangle, was blocked on the backstretch and faltered after moving up willingly in the stretch. SCOTLAND YARD showed nothing. FRANK MUNNS and POTOMAC quit. Overweight— Elkhorn, 11 pounds; Verona Sands, 2. Attendance, 9,890; Total Mutuel Pool, 16,439.
