First Lady of the Turf CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 2.— Mrs. Payne Whitney, owner of Greentree Stable, already was the "First Lady of the Turf* and when her Shut Out won the 1942 running of the Kentucky Derby, she became the first woman to win the race twice. Six times previously, starting with Mrs. C. E. Durnells Elwood in 1904, and including Mrs. Whitneys triumph with Twenty Grand in 1931, the Derby had been won by a woman Owner.
