. : i Nine Average Sprinters Match Strides in Plucky Play Purse Bishop Has 5. McLaughlin And Mescara Entered in Sportsmans Main Event SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, HI , May 2. — Tomorrows card at this half-mile plant, where the regular National Jockey Club meeting is in its first week of a 14-day. session, will consist of nine races. Best of the nine offerings is the seventh race, titled the Plucky Play Purse, honoring the good thoroughbred who raced on the Chicago circuit several decades ago. Plucky Play campaigned for the Northway Stable, owned by Norman W. Church, and the former stakes winner once defeated the mighty Equipoise. Named in the feature, which offers a ,500 purse and will be settled at seven furlongs, are Marion H. VanBergs Required, William Offermans Flaming Bush, Morris B. Cohens Hydraulic, Edward E. Voynows Great Fun, B. Mohrs Technicolor, W. H. Goelitz Janina, C. C. Wares Born to Win, and the William Hal Bishop coupling of Mescara and S. McLaughlin. Claimed at Oaklawn S. McLaughlin, acquired through the claiming box by the popular Anna, 111., horseman this spring during the Oaklawn Park meeting, will probably reign as choice in the dash, which is designed for three-year-old and older horses. The three-year-old daughter of War Jeep — Teddys Girl, bred by Mrs. Emil Denemark, from whom Bishop acquired her, won her first start at this meeting, competing in an allowance sprint. Saturday she turned in a very sharp effort, although not gaining the top award, when she was third in the Spring Handicap to Jim Branch and Lucky Co-dine. The margin of defeat for S. McLaughlin was slightly better than a length and a half. Flaming Bush will most likely be the early aggressor in this contest, judging from the early foot he displayed in Florida JOHN P. TURNER, SR.— Has been appointed a steward for the Wheeling Downs meeting. during the winter, but the distance required could perhaps prove a trifle exacting. Great Fun, another who raced in Florida the past season with marked success but would prefer a longer distance, could provide stout opposition in the Plucky Play.
