REFERENDUM went to the front early, gave way to JERRY NASH entering the stretch, then came again under brisk handling and disposed of the latter during the last sixteenth. JERRY NASH, away fast, raced prominently from the start, reached the lead when settled in the stretch, but faltered nearing the finish and could not hold the winner. SWEEP TIGER steadily improved position and gave a good effort, BHAM ALA raced evenly and had on mishap. THIRD OVAL was outrun. OUR YONKELA could not threaten when set down in the drive. SWEEPING JO had early speed, but failed to stay. HAWTHORN was never dangerous. WAR GIFT raced greenly. OCEAN CLIPPER was through early. The latter raced evenly for a half mile, was sent to the outside for the stretch run and, closing fast, was getting to the winner at the finish. IRENE, never far back, closed willingly under punishment. TRALA BOY faltered during the drive. WATCH ANDY had no excuse. WHATANURSE raced wide. MEDINA BOY never was dangerous. HARD HITTER began sluggishly. PROUD JACK tired. YELLMANTOWN went to the front early, steadily increased his advantage and won as his rider pleased. MOTHER MORRIS raced in the middle of the track but forwardly placed from the start and was unable to menace the winner when set down through the stretch. NEVER STOP lacked early speed, but finished well under punishment, COURAGE began -slowly and was unable to reach the leaders when hard urged during the drive. PASS KEY tired after racing well to the strecth. BEE AND BEE did not like the sloppy track. WEBSMED showed nothing. YOICKS was through early. TRES JOLIE could not keep up. BLACK GEORGE; alertly handled and partial to the sloppy track, assumed command at once, made the pace to the stretch under steady rating, repulsed the sharp bid of MIDDLEGROUND during the. drive, then drew clear under punishment MIDDLE-GROUND, a keen factor from the start, moved to BLACK GEORGE when settled in the stretch, then faltered and, although not good enough for the winner, easily bested the others. SUNGLOW, outrun to the last three-eighths, made a bold bid entering the stretch, but failed to rally when set down in the drive. GREEK SHIP raced prominently to the final furlong, then weakened. LOT 0 LUCK raced well to the stretch, failed to respond when hard ridden during the drive, but was worked out a mile and a quarter in 2:10%. THEORY, in close quarters to the upper ium, could not threaten when clear and did not appear to like the soft footing, STRANDED was never prominent SECOND AVENUE had early speed. ALL BLUE was far back throughout TRUMPET KING, on the inside during the initial half mile, was caught in close quarters coming out of the upper turn and, taken up sharply, failed to recover. TRY IKE went to the front at once, made the pace to the final furlong, then faltered and could not hold the winner. CONCRETE held on well in a good effort and had no excuse. CHILDERIC raced prominently throughout, but failed to respond when set down through the stretch. BROWNSTOWN was hustled fast to secure a good position after the start, but tired after showing early speed. PARK PIGEON did not like the sloppy track. DREAM CHAMP, raced wide. HILLBROOK MISS went to the front soon after the start, entered the stretch with a clear lead, but was hard ridden during the drive to withstand GABY HAUGH. The latter, never far back and in hand to the final quarter, closed fast under punishment and was getting to the winner at the finish. BRIGHT MIDAS drifted out at the first tum, forced MEDIATE wide, then raced far back to the stretch, but closed fast when set down in the drive. JONAGE could not reach the leaders when hard ridden through the stretch. MEDIATE moved up on the inside entering the stretch, then weakened. ONCEUPONATIME could not keep up.
