R. BATTY WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, HI., May 15. — At this well appointed, easily accessible race track in southern part of Cook County, the Lincoln Fields Racing Association tomorrow ushers in its 29-day meeting and at the same time observes its own 25th anniversary as a leading turf organization. This will be the third year of Lincoln Fields operation at Washington Park, while its own plant at Crete is in process of reconstruction. Washington Park is in its usual trim condition. The track itself is at its best. The local course last year was one of the fastest in the history of the American turf. On the eve of the 1950 opening president William E. Fay and general manager Peter J. ODonnell were highly pleased with the outlook for a successful season. The barns are full of good horses and attractive daily programs have been written by racing secretary Lawrence C. Bogenschutz. Small Field of Milers Tomorrows opening day program is tea-turned by the ,000 Inaugural Handicap at one mile in which Mrs. Emil Denemarks Provocative, 120, winner of the King Cotton Handicap at Oaklawn Park this. year and a stake winner since his juvenile year, will meet a small but select field of milers. Opposing the four-year-old son of Roman-Dusk n. will be Paul L. Kelleys Gangway, 112; P. J. Valentis Caillou Rouge, 105; Hasty House Farms Seaward, 116; M. H. VanBergs Over Night, 112; and Valley View Farms Whirl Home, 106. Gangway, five-year-old stallion by Gallant Fox — Humility, is returning to the scene of his last years triumph in the La Salle Handicap, one of the stakes on Lincoln Fields 1949 program. This spring he beat a good field easily at Gulf stream before heading north. Seaward has been one of the best horses in the Hasty House stable of Mrs. A. E. Ruben, and is trained by the competent Harry Trotsek, who has a large stable, in-Continued on Page -Three PETER J. Over Night was shipped over from Sportsmans Park, where he won the feature race on Saturday. While the Inaugural is the nominal piece de resistence tomorrow, it is rivalled, in interest by the ,500 Supremus Purse at six-furlongs. This race attracted 10 good sprinters, including three nominees for the 0,000 Crete Handicap next Saturday. These are Valley View Farms Lextbwn, winner of the Peabody Memorial last year, and Witch Sir, and Alsab Farms Missab. Completing the field are W. H. Bishops Richavoo and Banovina, Helen S. Reine-mans Eagle River, Mrs. S. Smiths Blue Holly, F. L. Flanders Blue Note, Elmen-dorf Farms Happy C, and E. B. Carpenters Blitzen Due. The Valley View Farm of J. L. Young-husband, promises to be an important factor in Chicago racing this year. The stable was largely increased during the winter. Among its purchases were 10 horses, most of them two-year-olds, which formerly belonged to M. A. Kerns Lex-brook Stable. The star of the Kern stable, however, was Lextown, who headed the private vendue. Witch Sir, former winner of the Equipoise Mile and Stars Stripes Handicap, was purchased from Louis Schlosser. Happy C, a fleet sprinter, also is one of the best grass track performers in the country, having hung up a couple of American records on the turf. Besides the sprint races during the coming meeting, the Elm-endorf gelding is expected to cut an important figure on the grass track. By entering two— Richavoo and Banovina — in the Supremus, Bishop, who tied with Willie Molter as leading American trainer last year and who is setting a fast pace again this year, was quick to get into action at the Lincoln Fields meeting.
