HURLEY Staff Correspondent « RIVER DOWNS, California, Ohio, June 7. — Racing swings into its second full scale week at this Queen City track with the weather turning to the sweltering variety. Crowds and mutuel play for the first eight days of this forty-four day meeting are well advanced over last seasons totals and the expected heat always did help this breezy track in both departments. Racing secretary Ejgene W. Bury has arranged a fine feature for Monday which brings the record-shattering Bless Me Lady to the attention of Cincinnati fans. This miss, from the stable of Mrs. J. Bronnen-berg, heads a nine-horse field in the featured Vernon Manor Purse, a six-furlong allowance event for three-year-olds and upward with a purse of ,200. Slated to oppose the Bronnenberg filly who raced to a record-breaking triumph on the final day at Beulah Park, traveling the same distance as Mondays contest in a smashing 1:10 flat are Char-Mar Farms entry of Grace Mae and Ariel Streak; Murray Hill Farms Caldwell, Mrs. L. Wagners Milan Man, E. D. Fitzgeralds Third War, W. F. Riggs Cavalier Trim, W. Neils Romanda and C. W. Riedengers Bonnie Teak. From here it looks like Bless Me Lady all the way without a prayer for the opposition. The. daughter of Bless Me — Lady Flight laughed her way to her record-breaking triumph and has no speed merchant in the Vernon Manor to press her in the opening stages of this test. Cavalier Trim, Romanda, Milan Man and Bonnie Teak floundered behind allowance horses in their last start while Grace Mae was a Jeg weary fourth her last start. Perhaps Ariel Streak or Caldwell might extend the favorite at some stage of the race for -Caldwell may "have been a trifle short of a top effort in his last endeavor. It is not expected that Bless Me Lady will threaten the existing track mark of 1:09, established by the good runner clang 17 years ago. The quality of the opposition will not press enough.
