LADY CAROLINA, steadied just off the leader, moved to the fore when SOUFFLE faltered and retained a commanding advantage without need of strong urging. LAVENDER HILL broke tardily and was extremely green early, then closed with good energy from the outside. SOUFFLE held a clear lead to the stretch and faltered. GALLANT STAIRS lacked sufficient rally while racing wide. CORTINA failed to rally. NONA BELLE was outrun. GANJA quit, as did CHRISTIE HELEN. Scratched— 57777 Graduate, 120. SECOND RACE I 1-8 MILES. REWARD saved ground from the start, wrested command while moving between horses on the turn and was kept to pressure while holding MOMS CHOICE safe. The latter set the pace and continued on courageously after being displaced. POMANDER held a favorable position, but was not good enough. TINSEL lacked a response. REGAL GLAD caught tired horses. SHARBOT1 always formidable, continued on courageously. HOME-MADE, sluggish early and forced to work her way through the field, closed fastest of all. MELANESIAN made up ground in the late satges. COUNTESS JANE closed well when clear. I SALUTE pressed the pace to the late stretch and quit WISE SCHOLAR set a swift pace and quit to a walk late in the drive. LATE MODEL quit. He was disqualified for having - caused crowding near the three-eighths pole. THEE AND ME alternated in setting and pressing the early pace, was taken up sharply when crowded along the inside near the three-furlong pole, then drifted out through the stretch. Ryans claim of foul against HULL DOWN was allowed. WAR POPPY turned in a dull effort. GO BETWEEN failed to reach contention. KHUMBABA was outrun. ELMOS CHOICE tired. VITAL was never a factor. BLUE TAIL FLY was outrun. WOHNEDA showed little. SEA LOCATION moved boldly into contention then flattened out in the drive. GINGER could not threaten. NICKIE C. set the pace and stopped in the stretch run. DORADA was outrun.
