Terrang to Get Special Shoes for Injured Hoof Pair Made of Spring Steel for Front Feet of Handicap Star HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., June 24. — Trainer Carl Roles, pleased with the improvement shown by his handicap star Terrang, plans to put a special shoe on the Khaled colts injured foot Tuesday and go on with his training, if possible. If all turns out well Terrang will be readied for the 62,100 Hollywood Gold Cup July 13. Roles this morning changed the iodine pack on Terrangs foot, just as he did Sunday morning. He was pleased with the way the sore spot was clearing up and with the fact Terrang was willingly putting pressure on the foot when he stood or walked. Roles explained he will have a special pair of spring steel shoes made for Terrangs front feet. They are made from an automobile spring and must be patterned off his old aluminum shoe. Except for having the shoes re-toed, Roles says they may be worn for several years without changing. "I use this method rather than a bar shoe or something else," he explained. "Six years ago when My Chief was a three -year-old he broke a bone in his foot. I put a pair of spring steel shoes on him and he wore them for two years. All we had to do was take them off the foot needed trimming and then put them back on. Of course, we had to build up the toes occasionally."
