J. Samuel Perlman, editor and publisher of Daily Racing Form, paid the following tribute to Evan Shipman.: "Evan Shipman was the greatest writer on thoroughbred- racing this continent has ever produced. He combined a thorough knowledge of the sport with superb craftsmanship and complete "integrity. His comments on important races were both penetrating and eloquent. He was without a peer in this field. In addition to his great talents, Evan was a kind and gentle man. He had a profound regard for the underdog and lived his life accordingly. We who love the sporting side of racing have sustained an irreparable -loss. He leaves a void Daily Racing Form and racing as a whole cannot possibly fill."
