• Mrs. Elizabeth McDaniel Kane Dies in Lexington, Ky., at 82 LEXINGTON, Ky., May 20.— Funeral services were held here last Saturday for Mrs. Elizabeth McDaniel Kane, former manager, of Maj. August Belmonts Nursery Stud Farm, who died early Friday morning following a lingering illness. Mrs. Kane, who was 82, was the wife of Edward Kane, stud manager for Belmont. After the death of the first August Belmont, Mr. Kane became manager of Nursery Stud and served in that position until his death in 1917. Mrs. Kane then took over the managership of the farm and served in that capacity until the dispersal sale in 1925 following Major Belmonts death. William B. Miller took over the lease of Nursery and operated it as Greenwich Stud. Mrs. Kane was manager for him with her son, Alfred, until she retired in 1931. Such stalwart thoroughbreds as Man o War, My Play, Messenger, Chance Play, Chance Shot and Ladkin were foaled and raised at the farm during her regime as manager. Surviving are a -daughter, Miss Frances Kane with whom she lived, her sons Alfred and Richard Kenneth, and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Hattie Wolverton.
