Two Purdue Baseball Players Are Signed Up by White Sox The Chicago White Sox yesterday signed two Purdue baseball players, the Big Ten leading hitter, outfielder Harold Hanes and . the fourth leading hitter in the league, catcher-outfielder Harold Wallace. Both were signed to contracts with the Gastonia, N. C, club in the class B Tri State League. However, Hanes was optioned immediately to Wisconsin Rapids in the class D. Wisconsin State League while Wallace was optioned to Superior Wis., in the class C. Northern League. Hanes, a 160-pounder who bats and throws left handed, hit .450 in the Big Ten. Wallace batted .404.
