Debdeb in River Downs ■ Debut This Afternoon Meets Five Rivals of Her Sex and | One Colt in Roessler Purse Sprint | By B. E. HURLEY Staff Correspondent RIVER DOWNS, California, Ohio, June » : 21. — Racing in Hamilton County, Ohio is 5 approaching the half-way mark for the - 1952 season with attendance and mutuel 1 play approximately 27 per cent up over r last season. Cincinnati racing fans have shown continued enthusiasm for the type I racing staged by the Ohio State Jockey y Club and the management has its most t attractive handicaps coming up for the last half of the 44-day meeting. Next weeks featured Cincinnati Special at a mile and -j 70 yards on June 28 carries a ,000 purse. Mondays card is headlined by a nice allowance race for four-year-olds and upward which has drawn seven entrants to o compete at six furlongs, six of whom are e members of the distaff side. The race e honors the Roessler Brothers, program a printers, by carrying their name and has s a purse of ,200. The sprinters named are e W. R. Painters Neverlator, J. G. Browns s Debdeb, Mrs. L. Wagners My Sister, Bris-bine and Griffins First Belle, Glen Fork k Stables Dividend Payer, Reese Brothers Harem Princess and C. H. Youngs Whirl Off. Debdeb, making her first start before local audiences, will be trying to impress her r new owner who acquired her recently. The e four-year-old daughter of Port au Prince — Light Frost, was a winner at Hialeah this winter and competed successfully through h the spring at Louisville and Keeneland. The feathery impost of 105 pounds adds to 0 her chances and the Brown miss may go 0 on to the handicap ranks for she can handle the routes well. First Belle, Dividend Payer, Harem . Princess and Whirl Off met a scant week ago and finished in the order named behind ;I Irish Wit. Whirl Off attracted most of the public support that day but the tem-permental Whirlaway filly lacked her chaacteristic rush and finished last. First ,a Belle has been a steady performer and j should provide most of the competition for she has seldom turned in a poor race. Neverlator is the sole defender of the masculine gender in the field but has not t much to recommend his chances to uphold d the male supremacy. My Future, another ;r female, has been freshened and runs well 11 d ;r 11 when rested. She might provide the upset in the Roessler Purse.
