Suffolk Downs to Renew Popular Olympian Series Six Races at Graduated Distances On Main, Turf Ovals Are Carded EAST BOSTON, Mass., May 16.— Suffolk Downs will renew its popular Olympian series during the 35 -day spring meeting which opens here Tuesday. This will be the third edition of the distance series, which was inaugurated by Judge John C. Pappas, Suffolk president, at last years spring meeting and repeated at the fall session. Six races at graduated distances from a mile and a sixteenth to two miles comprise the Olympian series. The purses are scaled according to the distances, increasing in value as the routes are extended. Three of the races have been scheduled for Suffolks grass course and three will be run over the main track. The conditions for this years renewal of the series will be the same as for last years presentations. The fields will be restricted to three-year-olds and up who have started for a claiming price of ,500 or less since June 30, 1956. The races in the Olympian series will be ran every Saturday during the session, beginning on May 25 with a contest of about one mile and a sixteenth on the turf for a purse of ,500. Then follows a race of a mile and an eighth on the main course for ,000 on June 1 ; mile and one-quarter, main course, ,500, June 8; about one mile and a half, turf course, ,000, June 15; mile and three - quarters, main course, ,500, June 22, and about two miles, turf course, ,000, June 29.
