ANOTHER STAKE FOE EEENE. PETER PAN CARRIES HIS COLORS TO VICTORY IN BROOKLYN DERBY. John E. Maddens King James Takes the Tre-mont Stakes Flip Flap Wins the Marlboro for J. A. Bennet. New York, June 10. Peter Pan, .Tames R. Keenes champion three-year-old, added tbe Brooklyn Derby to his stake victories at Gravesend this afternoon. By winning this race Peter Pan lias a long lead over all the horses of his age thus far. His only defeat this season was by Frank Gill In the Withers. His race today was remarkable for several reasons. He made all the pace and one after another the others, in the field went at hint all through the mile and a half journey, but none was able to wrest the lead from him. Through the stretch Miller, who had the mount, held liim well in hand to win easily by three lengths. The track was heavy from the recent rains and the time, 2:41, was fairly good considering this. In the early stages it was Oran that went with the Commando colt. lie was speedy, but keeping" step with Peter Pan soon took It all out of liim and his early efforts resulted In bis finishing a bad last. He was well beaten at the end of the first half mile. Paumouok was tbe next to give chase and completing the first mile he was within a half length of Peter Pan and racing very resolutely. lie could not close that needed half length though he stuck to his task gamely. On the far turn Martin made bis first move with. Frank Gill and, racing by Paumqnok.Jie was the next to challenge the pacemaker. All this time Miller sat still on Peter Pan and at all times had enough in reserve to offset tbe challenges that were coming in relays. Martin made a most determined effort to go to Peter Pan within three furlongs from the finish and that move probably cost Frank Gill third place at the end. Peter Pan would not be caught and when the final question was asked in the stretch Frank Gill tired badly. Paumouok hung on gamely and he was the one to race to second place, while Yankee Girl, which bad always been unable to lake part in the close chasing of tbe pacemaker, was a good third. The Tremont went to John E. Maddens King James, which wore down E. R. Thomas Ben ileet in a long stretch drive. Beaucoup, tbe favorite, could only reach third place at tbe end. In the Marlboro Flip Flap raced back to her excellent performance in the .Standard, and was returned an easy winner. Veil, tbe Keene filly that was making her lirst start or the season, was tbe favorite while as good as 4 to 1 was offered about Klip Flap. Higlit at the start Brookdale Nymph cut across Veil sharply ami Miller was forced to take her up to prevent being put over tbe fence. This threw the filly entirely out of tbe running. Brookdale Nymph made all the pace and was a Rood second to Flip Flap at tbe finish, but was disqualified for her move at the start. Coy Maid was placed second and Tokalon third. In the running Whimsical broke down and had to be pulled up. After Gallant Dan won the sixth race he was run up from ,000 to ?2,30 by John E. Madden, at which price J. L. McGinuis let him go.
