GRAND DAMES CLIPSETTA STAKES. Latonias Feature Is Practically a Walkover for Hendries Fast Filly. Cincinnati, O., June 15. An attractive card, of which the Clipsetta Stakes for two-year-old fillies at five furlongs was the feature, produced keen contests and spirited finishes at Latonia today. The weather being fine an immense throng, second only in number to the Derby day crowd, was present. The Clipsetta Stakes had only four starters and was practically a walkover for George Hendries splendid filly, Grande Dame. There -was little betting on the race. Grande Dame was held at 1 to 7 by the bookmakers and, of course, there were few wagers on her. Ada O. Walker and May Jene each had some support for second place. During the early hours Brown Mary, one of the warded starters, was withdrawn, and the Messrs. Clay added their Tliebais, in tbe hope of securing some portion of the stake. Grande Dame, ridden by J. Lee, went into a long lead from tbe start, and showed the way throughout. Ada O. Walker just as easily held second place safe from May Jene. The time, 1:01, is the record for the stake. The net value of the race to tbe winner was .,040. This was Grande Dames third straight ivc-tory, and there is a unanimous opinion among horsemen that she is the best filly shown in tbe west for some time. Tbe report that she had been ailing recently with pink eye was denied by Trainer John Walters. After Pasadenas good showing in the mile handicap, tbe criticism of jockey D. Bolands poor ride in his previous start was not misdirected. Heavy commissions were offered on Pasadena loday and he won after a short though spirited drive in the stretch to shake off Envoy. In Hanbridge George Holle evidently has a good colt. His victory over tbe youngsters in the second race was impressive. He disposed of his competitors in racehorse style and caught the admiration of all the old-time horsemen. Many say be is tbe equal of John Marrs. The same poor jaded lot of steeplechasers were in evidence in the cross country race. It was won by Peter Becker, which took the lead after War Chiefs rider broke a stirrup and Pendragon bolted. Graceland proved best of tbe others. Jockey Swain left tonight for Windsor. Word was received here today that James II. Mc-Corrnick will send Glorifier from New York to start in the Queen City Handicap. Joe Yeager arrived from West Baden this afternoon and will probably join the layers here next week.
