Martha Jane was skillfully rescrvc.d behind the leaders to midway the stretch, then challenged and, in a hotly contested finish, got up in the last two strides. Montbert was a game and speedy contender from the start and finished resolutely under punishment. Ferrylanding, from a Hying start, set the pace fast and, although tiring, held on unflinchingly. Astoria Belle made up ground and finished fast. C. II. fcIiiiling closed a big gap. as also did Ben Cole. Sweetener showed early speed, but failed to stav. The winner was entered for ,300; no hid. Uvlas was inelined to sulk in the early stages and had to be punished to keep within striking distance, out he wore down I.eonalla in the last turn of the Held and came away to win cantering. Blue Pigeon ran a good, race, passing the tiring Leonalla easily at the end. The latter showed superior speed, but tired and will do better over the short eourse. Oaklawn could not keep up at any stage and pecked at his fences, unseating Roberts at the Liverpool, but did not run away. King James was skillfully ridden, made up ground steadily from an unfavorable sendolf, came fast through the stretch and, after a sharp drive witli Ben Fleet, won going away. Ben Fleet, from a Hying starr, showed superior speed and set a hot pace and, although unable to withstand the winner, was a fast going second. Beaucoup was well ridden and finished gamely. Wave Crest made up ground steadily into a last going fourth. Masque showed early speed, but tired badly in the stretch drive. Chapultepec will do hotter over a fast track. Master Roberts quit badiv. Peter Pan set a slow pace under a hard pull and the horses ran well bunched for the first mile and Peter Pan being taken up on the turn for home Frank Oill got on oven terms for an instant, but when called Peter Pan drew away and won wintering. Paumonok ran in greatly improved form and outstayed arkeo Girl in a game linisli for second place. Yankee Girl was close up all the way mi account of the tlow pace, easily heat out Frank Gill at the end and would have been second in a few more strides. I rank Gill quit, but was given a savage kick by Oran while at the post and that may have made some t-nrerence in his running. Oran disliked the goiug and was always outrun. Brookdale Nymph ran into the lead quickly and, setting the pace fast, was an easy second, but was disqualified for fouling Veil at the start. Cov Maid was always prominent in the running, but tired in the final drive. Tokaion trailed far back early and finished with rush when too late. Veil was knocked back at the start and never conspicuous. Whimsical showed speed, but tired badly.
