The Keene pair, Peter Pan and Philander, coupled, were at i to 5 in the betting, but at the end of a sensational race Frank Gill was first Montgomery second and Salviderc third in 2:33J. Salvidcre ran a gallant race and, by hanging to Peter Pan like a leach for a mile and a quarter, encompassed Ids defeat and led for a space, but in his weak condition could not stay the route. This was run September 14 and, having a great pull in the weights, it was no trouble for him to win from Montgomery, Ballot and Ironsides, running the two miles and a quarter in :1:5Gb. For the First Special at Gravesend he was not so fortunate and was beaten in a close finish by Ballot and Electioneer. For the Second Special he ran second to Ballot in a great race, the ml!e and a half being run in 2:31J. This time Electioneer was a bad third and Ballot only won by 1 short length.
