ZIENAP RETURNS TO FORM BEATS CYMBAL. 0DDS-0N CHOICE. IN HANDICAP FEATURE AT LAT0NIA. Favorites Make Poor Showing and Layers Have Profitable Day — Foul Claimed Against Fireball Not Allowed. Cincinnati. O.. June 16. — The few venturesome layers who are accustomed to handle wagers of fair volume at Latouia reai ed a harvest tills afternoon through the defeat of four of the best backed favorites. A promising card of evenW balanced contenders accounted for a good attendance and provided some spirited racing, but the failure of the public to land on winners sent them from the track in anything but a happy frame of mind. W. F. Schultcs Zienap showed a return to good form in taking the handicap from Cvmbal. Her victory, however, was flukey, inasmuch as lockey Walsh gave Cymbal a ride that would have put a novice to blush. The purse race that preceded tbe handicap went to Plate Glass, a recent graduate from the maiden class. Only three started in the race and Plate Glass was at all times the choice. Marse Abe. however, had quite a following and he flattered his backers by leading for nearly tiree-qiuirters, but when It came to the test, he was wanting and Plate Glass downed him with seeming ease. The chief surprise came with the running of the second race when Ada Meade, at a fancy price, came home In advance of Righteasy and Hyperion II. The latter was an overwhelming favorite, but, poorly ridden, was never a serious contender. The Bedwell connections are reputed to have made a cleanup on the victory of Fireball, which scored a cantering victory in the fifth race over Toison dOr. The latter might have won but for having been sharply Interfered with at the lower rum by the winner. The claim of foul lodged by jockey Powers against the winner was not allowed. Deacon and J. Lee was the successful combination in the closing race, with Alma Boy second. There is every prospect tlwt the meeting here will be extended until July 10. according to President Harvey Myers, who was a visitor at tbe track this afternoon. No official announcement to this effect has been issued, however. Jockeys V. Powers, E. Martin and S. Page will leave for New York Sunday. Page, who has acquired an extensive following since his advent here, piloted the first three winners tills afternoon. W. S. Williams arrived today with the one-time useful racer. Hans. All the other horses in his string have been turned out. i W. J. Young will ship his horses tomorrow to Hamilton, where they will be rested until the opening of-the meeting at that place. Fred Luzader contemplates shipping to Hamilton some time this week. Robin Hood is slowly recovering from the effects of the foot spreading he snstained at Louisville. He will be turned out at C. E. Hamiltons farm until fall. J. C. Ferriss. Jr.. secured an attachment In the Kenton County Court this morning against Mellow-mint for an alleged debt of ,112 due him from owner George Borkel. Ferriss at one time trained the horses owned by Borkel. and the debt Is said to be for salary due.
