ORAL BETTING WELL TESTED IN EAST. I Saratoga. N. Y.. August 17. Oral betting has been well tested in the east this season. It has been fairly successful, according to both layers and players. In spite of the legal restrictions by which betting is hedged about, it is a matter of record that not a single arrest has been made this season at any of the tracks for an alleged infraction of the law. This is due to the rigid policy of the track owners in having the law obeyed to the letter and the voluntary support they have received from all classes of race-goers. The race-track detectives have been on the alert since the first day of tho campaign with orders to eject persons who might see fit to regard the new law as a joke, but the sleuths, barring a few minor cases, have not been compelled to take action.
