NOTES OF THE TURF. A brief trotting meeting is being held at the Fort Erie track. Sir Martin ruled favorite in the Grand Prix de Deauville. in which he finished second Sunday. William Hayward, Jr., who left the service of General Stephen Sanford last fall. Is now a farmer in Sussex County, New Jersey. It now is said that Ocean Bounds lameness is in her knee. Whether she will start in the near future or not cannot as yet he decided. It is said that the dinner to be given at Saratoga next Sunday by the Newcastle Stable is to be of importance to racing, inasmuch as turfmen from all parts of America will be guests. Th! report that William Walker, from whom her present owner took Centre Shot In a selling race, had a representative ready to bid the mare up alwive her entered price of ,000. caused her to be withdrawn from the Poutchartrain Selling Stakes at Windsor. The Victoria. B. C. meeting which closed Saturday was wonderfully successful, considering that it had little, if any, support from other localities that wen; counted on for patronage. Victoria, lias less than 50,000 population, yet it supported the long meeting of sixty-one days in a manner which permitted the Country Club to realize a handsome profit.
