AMERICAN HORSES IN PERU. Lexington, Ky.. August 17. Major Thomas J. Carson has received a letter from L. Brownell Combs, son of Minister to Peru Leslie Combs. In this letter young Combs tells of a one-day race meeting given at Lima, in which American-bred horses took a conspicuous part, mentioning especially a race for two-year-olds. In which the tirst, second and third horses were American-bred, Fronda. winner of third money, having been bred at the Dixiana Farm of Major Carson. The winner of the race was Cholita. by Blues Sister Teniiy. while Mcrcurio, by Gold Heels Merry Thistle, took second money. All of these horses were bred in Kentucky. Other American-bred horses mentioned by Mr. Combs as being on tho program for the day are Semproni, King of Hearts. El Picaro, Apto Oro. Transmute, Avonalis, Roxaua and Incognito. Several of these horses were purchased at Oakland last spring by former jockey J. McCarthy, who took them to South America. J. E. Madden is expected this week for a short visit to Hamburg Place. He is coining to look over the young stock and broodmares now quartered there and to see that everything has been running straight during the absence of himself and manager Snyder in the east.
