ENGLISH AUTUMN HANDICAP NOMINATIONS. Only One American Horse in the Cesarewitch, but the Cambridgeshire Proves More Attractive. London, Eng., August S. The nominations to the great fall handicaps, the Casercwitch and the Cambridgeshire, have been published, but in advance of the announcements of the weights little of value could be written concerning the chalices of the candidates. Sir Martin is the only American horse entered in ilie Cesarewitch, but the. shorter-distance Cambridgeshire has attracted the nomination of Ballot, Edward, Esperanto, Mediant; Melisande. Xormau III.. Priscillian. Sir Martin and Wedding Bells. It Is noticeable that Mr. Whitney has made no nominations, mute token that his older horses have proved d!sapiointing to him over here. It remains to be seen whether the. best of the American horses will again lie awarded the unenviable distinction that was their share when the weights for the spring and early summer handicaps were allotted. The Cesarewitch entries number eighty-one, two less than last year, and consist of: Admiral Togo III., Alaciel, Altitude, Amadis. Asticot, Baltinglass. Foaled in the Argentine, lie raced with success in that countrr. and in due courso was sent to South Africa, where he also raced and with even greater success. So great a horse did Charcot become that it was decided to dispatch him to England, and no great mistake was made in this decision, for the horse did well in this country ulso and was quite a high-class sprinter. Powerful and very good looking, he was just the sort to suit Irish breeders, so he was next secured by -Sir Charles Nugent to stand for some seasons, in that country, but the last move spirits him away from Ireland to England, and thence to serve as a stallion in South Africa. If he later on proceeds to Australia or New Zealand, and ultimately fetches up: in the land of his birth, it will not in the light of his past career bo surprising.
