IMPROVEMENT AT WINDSOR MORE F0RMFUL RACING FOLLOWS CHANGE IN TRACK CONDITIONS. Harry Richeson Scores at Longest Odds of the Meet ing Juvenile Handicap Results in Slash" ing Three Heads on the Post Finish. Detroit, Mich., August 19. Vastly better sport followed improved track conditions today, and the large attendance present at Windsor was furnished splendid entertainment. Most of the winners were accorded liberal support and their victories aroused prolonged applause. The finish in tlie handicap for juveniles was a slashing one. Gallant Pirate, Wool-casta and Paul Davis finishing heads apart in the order named. The Wainwright colt made a sparkling effort, but his victory was principally due to the energetic handling that jockey Kennedy gave him. Woolcasta probably was best, but jockey Howard handicapped her by a wide turn into the stretch when he had the race well in hand. Paul Davis was also a victim of inadequate handling and probably can do better. A driving finish, in which the winners margin at the end was only a nose, came .with the running of the fifth race, when Melissa. and Anna L. Daley engaged in a stretch duel. This pair drew away from the others in the final quarter and measured strides on even terms throughout the last furlong. Melissa gained the verdict in the hist stride. Martin Doyle, showing an improved performance, took third place. The longest-priced winner of the meeting came with the running of the. closing race, when Harry Richeson led home a fair band of selling platers. Gretna Green was a heavily-supported favorite at odds-on, but failed to finish better than third. The . Shaughraun leading him at the finish for second place. Another long-priced winner during the afternoon was Dorothy Webb, which gained a cantering victory In the opening dash. John W. Schorrs representatives. Woodlane. Paul Davis and Gretna Green, were much in demand In their respective races, but Woodlane was the onlv successful one of the trio. Her backers spent it few anxioun moments on account of the challenge of Night Mist in the last seventy yards, but Burn.s alertness saved the Schorr filly from defeat. Ex-Lieutenant Tom -Flynn came here from Chicago to witness his filly. Point Lace, run, nfid i . cidentally profited well when she led her opposition home. Patgalaga showed a superior performance when she spreadeagled a good band of two-year-old fillies in the third race, for which Eva Tanguay was the disappointing favorite. Trainer White of the R. J. Mackenzie stable will ""ship his charges to Toronto at the close of the Windsor meeting to await the opening of the Woodbine track. Direct has had one of his front legs fired.
